Nothing noteworthy happened from the time he left Neklamoor’s office up to his tutoring. He did notice that fewer girls were walking around with Ja’Ja handbags though, and Adora escorted him to his next class since he was late. She talked about her twin a lot, which stirred his loins into a feverish state by the time they reached his next classroom. Part of him wished she hadn’t mentioned her sister, while part of him wanted nothing more than to skip his class and find a room to take her in. It didn’t happen, obviously, and the day passed quickly until he got back to Trentell’s room for tutoring.

“Sorry if I only managed to see four different magic spells,” he sighed after explaining everything he’d seen. “I meant to ask around during my free period, but…”

“Yes, yes, the headmaster pulled you into his office,” she huffed and thumbed through a book on her desk without looking up at him. “Excuses are like noses, Liam. Everybody has one.”

Not how the expression goes where I come from, but, whatever.

Trentell seemed agitated today for some reason. She never looked up from that book once when he recalled the spells he’d observed. There had to be a reason, but she didn’t seem to be in any hurry to share what it was. A few minutes of awkward silence passed, so he held out his hand and tried to produce the sparks she demonstrated yesterday while he waited. Nothing happened, but he swore he managed to make his hand glow again after five minutes of concentrating.

“This is infuriating,” she growled and slammed the book closed.

“Should I ask, or should I wait for you to explain or move on?”

“A fair question,” she groaned and leaned her head back, stretching out her turtleneck sweater dress. The gods had gifted, for sure, but he couldn’t let his mind stray during tutoring. “You can be the judge later. I was informed of this spell of yours, and I’ve spent the better part of the day attempting to research it for our lesson. The headmaster spoke of it so casually, yet I cannot find a trace of it in any of my books. It’s confounding.”

Liam didn’t see the need to beat around the bush, so he located a target on her desk and set the spell to work. The ghostly hand shot out from the bottom of his vision, snatched what he assumed was a stress ball off the corner of her desk, and brought it back to his waiting hand. Trentell stared at it with wide eyes until it fell in his palm.

“Kindly wipe that smirk off your face and explain everything to me,” she grumbled and raced around the desk. “I saw nothing but my tension ball floating to you.”

“I’ve figured out that only I can see the spell at work,” he replied and handed the ball back to her. “It’s just like the name implies. It’s a ghostly hand that does what I tell it to. In this case, I ordered it to bring me the ball.
